Tasting Notes

Dark, inky black in color, this Petite expresses savory aromas of graphite and iron mixed with ripe blueberries. Huge on the palate, firm tannins build the framework for grilled meat and barbecue smoke combined with creamy vanilla and berry compote. It’s a delicious, wild, and intriguing wine that points back to its roots with every sip.

Winemaker’s Notes

This wine comes from the most far-flung vineyard we sourced from in 2017. Rockpile is north and west of Lake Sonoma, and the Branham Vineyard is one of the furthest north in the area. Once off the main road there is no real pavement, no signs, or cellphone reception. There is bright, red volcanic dirt, incredible views of rolling Sonoma County hills at almost 2,000 ft. elevation, and a few dedicated growers shepherding this powerful fruit. Truly off the grid—truly amazing.

The Vintage

2017 was a tale of two harvests separated by early October wildfires. This Petite was harvested before the fires and enjoyed the summer heat that ripened and developed intense clusters—perfect for this dark, expressive wine
